Gridders top Regina in season opener

That didn't take long. Not long at all. The Yorkton PeeWee Gridders football club did something they did not do last year and that's win the season opener.

The 2010 football season is just beginning to heat up a little. With NFL preseason games just having started, CFL is nearly halfway through, that can only mean one thing: the football field in Yorkton is going to start to get busy soon too.

Normally when someone has a lot of a good thing, it is a really good thing. Except maybe a football team with two legitimate starting quarterback seeing as how they can't play both at the same time.

Junior baseball nationals

The Alexander Menswear Yorkton Junior Cardinals are about to represent Yorkton and Saskatchewan for the second time in three years. They will be competing at the national championships of Junior hardball down in Trois Rivieres, QB.

It wasn't that bad a day for the Yorkton Canoe and Kayak Club as they hosted their 2010 Yorkton Developmental Regatta, at York Lake, on Aug. 14 featuring sprint canoe and kayak paddlers with a year or less of training under their belts.

Charity golf

The Deer Park Golf Course will be hosting yet another tournament when the United Way Charity Mixed golf tournament. It will take place on Sept. 10. Anyone is welcome to enter and can do so by email or fax to the Yorkton and District United Way Ltd.

Summer car care

Summer can be tough on cars, especially during times of high temperatures when heat can destroy batteries and stress the cooling system and tires.

Mitchells heading to Costa Rica

Wayne and Suzanne Mitchell of KEE's Taekwondo will be leaving Canada for a week to head to Costa Rica. The staff members of KEE's are heading to a referee seminar/refresher course and are looking to be certified.

PRA racing

The Parkland Racing Association will be holding another two-day race weekend on Sept. 18-19 at the Yellowhead International Speedway. Races will be held on both days and racing starts at 2 p.m.
