The 2010 football season is just beginning to heat up a little. With NFL preseason games just having started, CFL is nearly halfway through, that can only mean one thing: the football field in Yorkton is going to start to get busy soon too.
On Saturday afternoon, the Prairie Football Conference made its second stop in Yorkton within the past three years. It turned out to be a bit of a whitewash as the Regina Thunder poured on 38 points by the half and led the Winnipeg Rifles 38-7.
Erwin Klempner, head coach of the Regina squad didn't seem overly excited about his team's performance so far, 小蓝视频 the early stages of preseason, suggested merely that the game itself is a "great opportunity for those kids" to show what they can do and "find out their capabilities.
He said its good to be able to play a neutral-site game such as this one in Yorkton where he said its got "outstanding facilities."
Klempner also added that in preseason matches, everyone on the roster gets a chance to play.
The Thunder and Rifles got a decent turnout Saturday at Kinsmen Century Field even though the high school practices haven't started yet, Klempner said the turnouts at home in Regina see close to 1000 spectators turn out to take in Junior level football.
"There's a tremendous amount of support" both here (in Yorkton) and there, he said.
"Football's really starting to take off."
The Thunder and Rifles play in the Prairie Football Conference, which includes teams from all the Prairie Provinces from Alberta, the Edmonton Huskies, the Edmonton Wildcats and the Calgary Colts; from Manitoba, the Winnipeg Rifles; from Saskatchewan, the Thunder and the Saskatoon Hilltops.
