ESTEVAN - One of the men charged in connection with a death on the White Bear First Nations last week had a telephone appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.
Jeremy Whitebear, age 22, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Talon Lonethunder. Whitebear's matters were adjourned to Dec. 16, also in Estevan, and Whitebear was remanded into custody.
A show-cause hearing would need to take place in Court of King's Bench for Whitebear to be released on bail.
Whitebear was arrested on Dec. 7.
The Saskatchewan RCMP continues to look for 26-year-old Dwayne Maxie, who has been charged with manslaughter in Lonethunder's death. Maxie is described as approximately 6’2” tall and weighing 250 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. He also goes by the name ‘Georgie’.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says anyone who sees Maxie should not approach him. Report all sightings and information about their whereabouts to the Saskatchewan RCMP at 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or .
Background: At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of an injured individual at a residence on the White Bear First Nations. Officers immediately responded and located Lonethunder deceased. He was 33 years old and from White Bear.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took the lead of the investigation.
There has been an increased police presence since the incident occurred.
The RCMP announced charges against Whitebear and Maxie on Dec. 5, although both were on the run at the time. Whitebear was arrested on Dec. 7.
