UNITY – Update Aug. 16 3:12 p.m.: Wainwright RCMP continue to investigate this offence. They are asking drivers who may have been struck by or have dash camera footage of the suspect’s White Ford 150 to report to the Wainwright RCMP at 780-842-4461.

Update Aug. 15 10 a.m.: RCMP have charged 39-year-old Bert Tyrell Buckley from Hay River, Alta., with two counts of flight from police, three counts of dangerous driving, three counts of criminal hit and run, and driving while prohibited.

Buckley has been remanded in custody and appears next in Wainwright court on Aug. 17.

Update Aug. 14 9:38 a.m.: The driver of the suspect vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and was deliberately trying to ram other vehicles on an Alberta highway Sunday, say RCMP.

“Right around 2 p.m. on the 13th, RCMP received a call that a suspicious vehicle had been reported stopped in the middle of the highway and when the complainant attempted to pass the vehicle it started to swerve towards them and follow them,” Alberta RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff told SASKTODAY.ca Monday morning in a phone interview.

“Three vehicles were hit by the suspect vehicle and three received minor damage. There were no injuries to the occupants.”

Cpl. Savinkoff said that once the man is formally charged and appears before a justice of the peace, and is either released or remanded, the RCMP will issue another media release.

Cpl. Savinkoff said that the highway wasn’t blocked to traffic in Saskatchewan very long on Sunday, adding that the truck was towed immediately after a spike belt was used to stop it.

Original story: Saskatchewan RCMP helped Alberta RCMP stop a vehicle that had fled from police in Irma.

On Aug. 13, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Vermillion RCMP Traffic Services tried to stop a white F-150 that was driving through Irma on Highway 14 at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle fled from police and speeds were estimated to have reached 180 kms/hr with a very erratic and dangerous driving pattern.

Wainwright RCMP began receiving complaints of a dangerous driver ramming vehicles along Highway 17 outside of Wainwright. Additional RCMP were called in to provide support.

Due to the driving behaviour, a Tire Deflation Device deployment was attempted, however, the suspect avoided it and then drove toward police vehicles and into oncoming traffic as it fled, driving erratically on Highway 17.

The suspect vehicle entered Saskatchewan and Unity RCMP were called in to assist. A Tire Deflation Device was successfully deployed west of Unity and the suspect vehicle entered the ditch. The male suspect was taken in to custody.

The investigation continues. No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.
