MJPS arrests 44-year-old Quebec woman involved in 'grandparent scam'

MOOSE JAW — On March 26, the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) received approximately 30 calls for service from residents indicating they were contacted as part of an attempted  

Several residents had provided cash to a female suspect, who was posing as a bail bondsperson collecting money.

The MJPS's Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) began an operation, which resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Veronique Charpentier of Montreal, Que. She is facing multiple charges of fraud over $5,000, charges that the Moose Jaw Police Service and other agencies laid.

Charpentier is the second individual whom MJPS has arrested and charged for involvement in grandparent scams since 2024.

With the assistance of Regina Police Service, the MJPS executed a search warrant on April 3, seizing proceeds of crime relating to these allegations.

Charpentier appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on April 4 and was remanded in custody.
