REGINA – One of Canada’s most wanted fugitives has been brought back to Saskatchewan to face a murder charge. Daniel “Juma” Drie Atem is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on May 1 by CCTV from the remand centre.
Atem is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 32-year-old Roman Miller on July 29, 2023, at the 2100 block of Broad Street in Regina.
In early 2024, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Atem’s arrest and in April 2024 he was put on Canada’s Top 25 Most Wanted BOLO list. In October 2024, BOLO expanded their campaign to catch Atem, saying they were putting up a large billboard and offering a $50,000 reward for information that led to his arrest. The Bolo program aims to bring national attention to wanted suspects across the country through various methods including large rewards, media campaigns and more. The program is free of charge to police services.
Atem, who was number 14 on the BOLO list, was arrested on Jan. 15, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He made his first court appearance on Jan. 16 in Winnipeg.
Atem still faces previous charges of trafficking fentanyl and cocaine. Those charges are also expected to be spoken to at his May court appearance in Regina.
Atem’s co-accused, Shedrek Samuel, is also charged with first-degree murder in Miller’s death. Regina police say Samuel turned himself in to British Columbia RCMP in February 2024 and brought back to Saskatchewan.
