WEYBURN – The Weyburn Wildlife Federation held their annual Mainprize Fishing Derby on Saturday at Mainprize Regional Park.
They were able to beat the weather, as just at the end of the day the snow started to fall. Numbers were down due to the threat of the storm, and they had a total of 44 anglers, including 34 adults and 10 youth for an afternoon of fishing.
There were a total of nine fish caught over the four hours. No youth caught any fish in the categories or the adult perch, so organizers drew names to pick winners.
The Biggest Pike was caught by Kaden Hilts at 4.67 pounds; the Biggest Walleye was caught by Ken Kopeck at 0.62 lbs., and the drawn winner for Biggest Perch was Michelle Severson.
The drawn winners for the Youth Biggest Pike was Jacob Hahn; for Youth Biggest Walleye, Maci Stainbrook; and for Youth Biggest Perch, Joel Benson.
The 50/50 winner was Vanessa Stainbrook; the hidden weight winner was Kaden Hilts, and the first fish caught was by Ernest Wiggins.
