WEYBURN - Weyburn city council approved a special occasion permit for the 2024 Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show, slated to take place on June 4-6 at the Weyburn exhibition grounds.
The permit is required by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, in order to sell alcohol on the site of the Oil Show.
The times requested is for 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on June 4; noon to midnight on June 5, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on June 6.
• In other council business, a tender for a watermain replacement was approved, for Railway Avenue.
The project was to replace 265 metres of 200mm AC watermain and associated infrastructure on Railway from Eighth to 10th Streets, and 190 metres of water main on Moore Street between Sims Avenue and First Avenue SW. The watermain under Moore Street is located under the boulevard, so the paving area will not be affected, and the City is recommending that this watermain does not need replacing.
After the replacement on Railway, the roadways will be repaved as part of the asphalt rehabilitation project for 2024.
The contract was awarded to A&B Concrete for $207,625. The project had a budget of $400,000, but as Moore Street is not needing to be done, the remainder of the budgeted funds will be returned to the utilities reserve fund.
• City council gave first reading to a bylaw to approve their portion of the Weyburn Planning District Official Community Plan, with the RM of Weyburn council needing to do the same from their end.
The Weyburn District Planning Commission was provided funding in 2022 to do a review and update of the Official Community Plan, which provides a joint approach to address future land use, fringe development and other matters of inter-municipal regional concern affecting land in both the City and RM. City manager Mathew Warren indicated that both the City and RM were advised to separately pass bylaw amendments for the plan, and to separately hold public hearings.
The City will hold theirs on April 8, and the RM on April 10.
