Often when I am out and about doing interviews, I find there鈥檚 a common question that I will ask everyone that month, usually reflecting on the current state of the industry.

Wow, this month has been a whirlwind, and more importantly, it鈥檚 been fun. Why fun? In the last six weeks this paper has seen more excitement, more enthusiasm and more good news than we鈥檝e seen in the last two years.

Arcola 鈥� Things are picking up for Eagle Oilfield Services Ltd. of Arcola. 鈥淲e鈥檙e moving lots of used iron, moving some new iron,鈥� said Micky Grimes, president, on Feb. 8. 鈥淭rucks are staying busy. It seems to be picking up. It鈥檚 not crazy.

Weyburn 鈥� To say there was strong contractor interest in the proposed Dominion Energy Processing Group Inc. Stoughton refinery would be an understatement. The contractor meeting, held in Weyburn鈥檚 McKenna Hall on Feb.

Carnduff 鈥� When there鈥檚 a lot of snow, people break snowplows and snow blowers, and that keeps the welders happy. Brycen Mains of Mains Welding in Carnduff has been quite happy to see that snow. 鈥淭his year is crazy busy.

Weyburn 鈥� The Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show takes place in Weyburn on June 7-8, and with 鈥淭hings have really picked up in January,鈥� said Tanya Hulbert, show manager. 鈥淩egistrations have gone well. We鈥檝e seen an increase of exhibitors in January.

Carnduff 鈥� Just after midnight, in the early minutes of Dec. 30, Betts Drilling shop and office on the east side of Carnduff burnt to the ground. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e still doing the investigation,鈥� said Bob Betts, general manager, on Jan.

Regina 鈥� While the return of oil to over US$50 per barrel has resulted in the highest activity levels seen in Saskatchewan in two years, the Feb. 7 public offering of Saskatchewan鈥檚 Crown petroleum and natural gas rights sure didn鈥檛 show it.
