Grain safe rescue training provided by Weyburn Fire Department

A day-long training session was held by the Weyburn Fire Department on Saturday, to demonstrate techniques for safely rescuing a person trapped in a grain bin. A simulator of a grain bin was provided, and techniques for safely removing grain using rescue equipment were demonstrated, with the goal to reduce the pressure on the person to enable them to climb out, or be removed if they are injured.

The Weyburn Silver Seals swimming club hosted several swimming clubs from around Saskatchewan for a swim meet at the Weyburn Leisure Centre on Saturday. There were many volunteers on hand to help with the race timing and man the raffle tables and barbecue, as heats and finals were held for all age levels in all styles of speed swimming.

Many families came out to enjoy three days of perfect, clear summer weather and take in the rides and attractions of the 114th annual Weyburn Fair on July 6-8 at the Weyburn exhibition grounds. The midway was provided by Canuck Amusements, with many food vendors, the Souris River Rodeo, the DQ Kids Rodeo, barrel-racing and a grandstand show, among other things, to keep people busy.

The Weyburn Arts Council hosted the Gifted Summer Art Market on Saturday, located along the paths of Jubilee Park. The day was sunny and hot, bringing out many families to see the vendors of artists and crafts people, plus non-profit groups had booths, with a barbecue by the Weyburn Humane Society, and golf ball drop tickets available from the Rotary Club.

The streets were crowded with spectators for the annual Weyburn Summer Parade on Thursday morning, as a prelude to the Weyburn Fair, which began later in the day with a midway and rodeo. There were many floats from organizations and businesses, as well as the City of Weyburn and groups like the Weyburn Ag Society and Humane Society.
