Weyburn police chief pays off bet to Estevan chief

'It's a sad day around the office,' says Chief Blunden

WEYBURN — Weyburn police chief Jamie Blunden donned an Estevan Bruins jersey for work on Monday, as he pays off his wager with Estevan police chief Richard Lowen for the Highway 39 Cup.

The Cup is a best-of-three series between the Richardson Pioneer Red Wings and the Estevan Bruins, and the Bruins swept the series in its inaugural year by scores of 5-0 on Wednesday night at Affinity Place, and by 7-0 on Saturday night at Crescent Point Place.

Blunden helped Lowen carry the Cup into the Bruins dressing room afterward to present it to captain Eric Houk, and then he put on Chief Lowen's Bruins jersey and shook hands.

To complete the wager, Blunden also wore the jersey for the day Monday, admitting, "It's a sad day around the office today."

He added, "It is what it is."

Blunden is also the president of the Weyburn Red Wings board of directors this year.
