WEYBURN – The Weyburn U14 Falcons came to play Saturday versus the Moose Jaw Raiders in their first playoff game.
All three sides of the ball worked together to secure the 46-39 win, sending them to the championship game next weekend against the Moose Jaw Vikings.
Weston Whitford was the offensive player of the game and Cole Payak was the defensive player of the game.
This team has grown so much over the season and are excited for another crack at the Vikings, said the coach.
In the other playoff game, the Weyburn U12 Ravens traveled down the road to Estevan on Sunday for a clash with the Chargers in the Consolation Semi-Finals.
After going winless all year the boys were hungry to get a 'W'. A great day of football resulted in the boys coming away with a 12-6 win in overtime to move on to the Consolation finals vs. Assiniboia.
The offensive game ball went to Zaven Travis, who ran three times for 15 yards and a TD while completing three of five passes for 37 yards, including the game-winning 25-yard TD pass to Logan Payak.
Other contributors on offence included Judd Venard, who ran 14 times for 102 yards, and Landon Leroux who ran eight times for 24 yards and caught two passes for eight yards.
The defensive game ball went to Owen Abtosway, who was a monster racking up 10 solo tackles, many for losses or short gains. Owen also was involved in an additional seven tackles.
Other contributions on defence included Preston Walter with 12 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries, including the game-ending fumble recovery in OT.
Kai Clark had two tackles, one sack, and a fumble recovery, while Cale Porter picked up seven tackles and a sack.
The boys were super pumped up with the win, and are looking forward to one last game against Assiniboia on Oct. 29. This game will kick off at 1 p.m. in Assiniboia.
