Weyburn Comp Senior Girls volleyball advance to provincials

The WCS Senior Girls volleyball team hosted the 5A 小蓝视频 Regional tournament over the weekend, and are advancing to provincials this coming weekend in Prince Albert.

WEYBURN – The WCS Senior Girls volleyball team hosted the 5A 小蓝视频 Regional tournament over the weekend, and are advancing to provincials this coming weekend.

Teams from Swift Current, Yorkton, Estevan and Balgonie came to compete for their ticket to provincials next weekend in Prince Albert. The tournament was organized as a five-team round robin without playoffs, making every game crucial in the quest for provincials.

The Eagles opened their tournament by taking on the Greenall Griffins from Balgonie on Friday afternoon. The Eagles and the Griffins have battled all season long, and this time the Eagles came out on top. In the first set, the Griffins topped the Eagles 25-16. The Eagles rebounded in the second set to win 25-16 and in the third set the Eagles prevailed over the Griffins 15-11.

On Friday evening, the Eagles took on the dominating Ardens from Swift Current. The Ardens came away with a difficult win over the Eagles 25-19 and 25-22.

Matches continued on Saturday, with the Eagles taking on the Yorkton Raiders in the afternoon. The Raiders took an early lead over the Eagles, taking the first set 25-23. Battling back again, the Eagles took the second set 25-19 over the Raiders forcing a third set. The Eagles won 15-10 ending the Raiders season.

Following the WCS and Yorkton match up, the Swift Current Ardens defeated the Greenall Griffins to claim the regional championship title with a 4-0 record, advancing them on to provincials as the number one team from the south. In the final match of the day, the Highway 39 rivalry between Weyburn and Estevan continued in an electrifying match up.

Both teams with a record of two wins and one loss were seeking victory to extend their seasons and advance to provincials. The Elecs took the early lead and won the first set 25-13. In a back-and-forth second set, the Eagles won 25-23 forcing another third set. A close third set ended with the Eagles beating the Elecs 15-13 to punch their ticket to provincials as the second team from the south.

The SHSAA 5A Provincials are 小蓝视频 held at Prince Albert St. Mary’s High School and Sask Polytech, with games starting on Friday continuing on to Saturday.
