WEYBURN – The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior girls hosted their first basketball tournament of the season, while the senior boys opened their season at a tournament in Yorkton.
In the senior girls tournament, WCS opened on Friday with a game against Lumsden, and WCS won 71-35.
The high scorers were Aycen Schwindt and Faith Magawa, each scoring 15 points.
On Saturday, WCS lost to Estevan in a nailbiter, as they lost by two points in the final minute after 小蓝视频 back and forth all game. The Eagles lost their final game to Indian Head as well.
Next weekend they are off to Swift Current for their final tournament before the new year.
The WCS senior boys opened up their season this past weekend on the road in Yorkton for the annual York Classic.
The Eagles played Melville in their first game on Friday and came away with the 71-42 win. This put them into the semi-final game vs the host Yorkton Raiders.
The Eagles came out on top in that game with a 95-55 win.
In the championship game, the Eagles faced the team from Melfort. A close game all the way with many lead changes, but in the end the Eagles opened it up near the end of the fourth quarter for a 73-58 win and a first-place finish in the tournament.
Top offensive players for the weekend included Thomas Olson and Tristan Palpallatoc.
Also having big games for Weyburn were Nolan Uhren with a big game shooting from beyond the arc; Owen Istace, Conner Kerr, Jarret Hayward and Thomas Olson recorded multiple steals and had solid defensive play, leading the defense for the weekend.
The senior boys will head to Warman on the Dec. 8-9 weekend for their next tournament.
