Weyburn Comp Eagles Junior Girls host volleyball tournament

The WCS Eagles Junior A and B teams took part in a home tournament on Saturday, with the A team split into two squads.

WEYBURN – The WCS Eagles Junior A and B teams took part in a home tournament on Saturday, with the A team split into two squads.

The first squad, Team SPICEEE, ended up winning the tournament, as they beat St. Michael in the final. The other squad, Team ICEEE, won bronze.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles Senior Girls volleyball team travelled to Regina for the Reconciliation in Sport Tournament hosted by Campbell Collegiate.

Sixteen teams participated in the girls division of the tournament and 10 teams in the boys division. The Eagles began pool play on Friday, defeating Centennial Collegiate from Saskatoon 25-17 and 25-13.

The Eagles then were challenged by St. Francis Xavier from Edmonton, and they defeated the Eagles in a three set match, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-9. The Eagles then went on to defeat Winston Knoll from Regina in a three set match 25-22, 23-25 and 15-7.

The Eagles finished second in their pool. The top two teams from the four pools advanced to the Gold playoff pool and the bottom two moved into the Green playoff pool. The Eagles faced Balgonie in the quarterfinals, falling 25-15 and 25-16, setting them up for a rematch against Estevan.

The Eagles defeated the Elecs in two straight sets, 25-23 and 25-17. The Eagles moved into the fifth place game versus LeBoldus from Regina.

The Eagles prevailed over the Golden Suns in a three-set match 21-25, 25-18 and 17-15.

The next action for the senior girls is the home-and-home Co-op Series versus Estevan. WCS will host the Elecs tonight, Oct. 4, with games times for the boys at 5:30 p.m. and the girls at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles will travel to Estevan for the second half of the series on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

In tournament play, the Eagles will be travelling to Saskatoon to play in the Guardians Cup at St. Joseph High School on Oct. 13 and 14.
