WEYBURN – The Weyburn Comp Eagles Junior Boys basketball team competed in their final tournament of the season at St. Michael over the weekend. The boys played Radville Friday night, playing one of their best games of the season and winning easily.

On Saturday morning they played the Swift Current Comp’s all Grade 9 team and suffered their first loss of the season.

"The boys played hard and started off really well, but we just could not match the older boys’ strength at the end of the game," said coach Darren Johnson.

This set up another game with St. Mike’s later in the day for second place.

"St. Mike’s has a great team and have played us really tough the last few times we have faced them. Even though we were down five points late in the game my boys stepped up the intensity in the last two minutes."

The final score was 50-44. This improved the overall season record to 16 wins and one loss.

The next action for the boys will be districts, but with STF job action, the coach was not sure when or if they will be played.

"It will be disappointing if we don't get to play districts because we have a really good chance of repeating as district champions. If this is the end of our season, it has been a privilege to coach these great young men. I have been very proud of their growth this season,” said coach Johnson.
