The Van de Vorst Family Award for Excellence in Prevention was presented to these Weyburn-based police officers for their commitment to removing impaired drivers off our roads and highways.

WEYBURN – Five Weyburn-based police officers received the Van de Vorst Family Award for Excellence in Prevention, recognizing their extraordinary commitment to removing impaired drivers from roads and highways.

They included Const. Maralee McSherry with her police dog Oakley, Weyburn Police Service; Const. Donavon McSherry, Sask. Highway Patrol; Const. Christopher Lamontagne, Weyburn RCMP CTSS; Const. Jeff Bartsch, Sask. Highway Patrol; and Sgt. Cathy Walter, Weyburn CTSS.

The award is named in memory of Jordan and Chanda Van de Vorst and their two children, Kamryn and Miguire, who were killed by an impaired driver in a collision near Saskatoon in 2016.

The award, presented by MADD Canada, recognizes these officers for “your extraordinary commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roads and highways.

“Our heartfelt gratitude for everything you do for the safety of the families and communities of Saskatchewan.”

Members of the family created the award to salute officers who arrest a certain number of impaired drivers in a year.
