The Weyburn Police Service received 66 calls for service during the week of May 17-23, resulting in nine criminal code charges, four traffic-related charges, and one charge under the Cannabis Control Act. Charges laid under the Criminal Code of Canada include failing to comply with a court order, impaired driving, and two individuals who were charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

On Saturday evening, members of the Weyburn Police Service CTSS unit, as well as regular patrol members and assisting agencies, including the RCMP and SHP, participated in a High Visibility Enforcement project, “ArriveDry”, aimed at keeping our roads safe by removing impaired drivers. During the six-hour event, running from 6 p.m. to midnight, approximately 250 vehicles were checked, resulting in two drivers receiving a license suspension, one of which may face a further charge of impaired driving pending the results of a lab analysis.

Many of the sober drivers who went through the check were provided a complimentary gift provided by SGI and MADD Canada, such as an air freshener or gift card to a local business.  The Weyburn Police are thankful to everyone who does their part in keeping our roads safe.
