Brian Glass and Dale Huff of the Weyburn Legion presented a DVD series, "Canada Remembers" to Dan Manning, centre, principal of Assiniboia Park School on Friday.

Brian Glass, left, and Dale Huff, representing the Weyburn branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, presented the DVD series, “Canada Remembers” commemorative school projects, to Dan Manning, principal of Assiniboia Park Elementary School on Friday.

The Legion is also providing copies of the series to Legacy Park, St. Michael, Weyburn Comprehensive and Yellow Grass schools.

“We are very appreciative to the Legion for providing this material, so we can teach our students about the importance of Remembrance Day,” said Manning.

He noted that this year, the students will not be able to take part in the school-based ceremonies for Remembrance Day due to COVID restrictions.

Each package has six DVDs with documentaries about those who served in the Second World War and Korean War up to the conflict in Afghanistan, as well as a teacher’s guide to assist in classroom discussions about the documentaries.

The series includes footage from the Canada Remembers Air Show, where veteran and current airmen and women spoke about Canada’s role in wartime and peacekeeping.

“In the DVDs, kids talk to veterans who tell stories from serving,” said Glass, who has viewed the series. “It’s a very well thought-out series.”

The series is produced by Saskatoon-based Thomega Entertainment, which has been producing the “Canada Remembers” documentaries about Canada’s veterans since 2001.
