REGINA — A Regina man enjoyed surprising his wife with a $100,000 winning ticket recently.
Byron Ewert-Molesky was at Broad Street Convenience store at 194 Broad St. N in Regina on May 20 when he picked up a Lotto Max ticket for the draw later that evening.
The following day, he took his son to the skate park. As he watched his son from a bench nearby, Ewert-Molesky decided to check his ticket using the Lotto Spot! app.
“I saw the $100,000 and was stunned. I was super excited,” he recalled, “I couldn't stop smiling.”
Ewert-Molesky added the Extra to his ticket and won by matching the last six digits of the winning Extra number for the draw – 2457186.
Overwhelmed with his discovery, the Regina resident tucked his ticket into his pocket and put on some music. When he returned home later that day, he played it cool when he reminded his wife that they should check their lottery tickets.
“I scanned the first one, which I knew wasn't a winner, and then we scanned the second one and it was a winner,” Ewert-Molesky recalled.
“She said, ‘Is this a joke?! Are you serious?” Ewert-Molesky described the moment as СÀ¶ÊÓƵ full of “jubilation,” “disbelief” and “excitement.”
“It's surreal; I kept waking up the next day asking myself, ‘did that happen?’" he said.
The winner has a few ideas for his windfall.
"It will bring me closer to retirement," he said. “And we have a 25th anniversary coming up, so the money will help plan that."
