REGINA - Much of southern Saskatchewan remains under rainfall warning Friday morning. Environment Canada is reporting warnings in effect in areas including Regina, Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Estevan, Weyburn, Fort Qu'Appelle, Yorkton, Melville and other areas. Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain are not in the warning area but are covered by a special weather statement.
According to Environment Canada, a low pressure system moving northwards out of North Dakota is spreading rain across southeastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba.
Widespread amounts of 30 to 60 mm are forecast for the hardest hit areas. Regina is also in the warning area though less rain is expected there.
The forecast calls for the heaviest rain to begin tapering off from south to north later today, but showery weather will last into the first half of the weekend.
As well, strong winds gusting upwards of 80 km/h will be possible today. People are urged to keep their eye out for possible flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding is possible in low lying areas.
