SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for much of southeast Saskatchewan, including the Estevan, Weyburn and Regina areas.

Issued early Thursday, the warning says a spring storm is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of southeastern Saskatchewan on Thursday and Friday.

A developing low pressure system will spread rain with embedded thunderstorms into southeastern Saskatchewan beginning late in the day Thursday. The heaviest rain will fall on Thursday night into Friday morning. Widespread amounts of 30-60 millimetres are forecasted.

The heaviest rain will taper off by late Friday but showery weather will last into the first half of the weekend.

In addition to the heavy rain, strong winds gusting as high as 80 kilometres per hour will be possible overnight Thursday into Friday.

A special weather statement that was issued yesterday for those areas has been lifted, but the statement remains in effect for the Carlyle region. Heavy rain is expected in that area as well.
