Design plans will soon be underway for a new hospital to serve residents of Weyburn and the surrounding area.

Saskatoon-based Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd. (Group2) has been selected as the design team for the new Weyburn and District General Hospital. Group2 will be responsible for leading the design of the new facility.

"A brand new state-of-the-art hospital is something the people of Weyburn and area have been working toward for a long time," Education Minister and Weyburn-Big Muddy 小蓝视频 Dustin Duncan said on behalf of Rural and Remote Health Minister Everett Hindley. 聽"We are so grateful to the community for the support and generosity they have shown to help make this project a reality."

The new hospital will bring together health services which are currently in different locations around Weyburn, and make them accessible under one roof. 聽The new 35-bed health care facility will include primary health services, a 10-bed inpatient mental health unit and enhanced emergency services, including a heliport.聽 This project is a part of the Government of Saskatchewan's $7.5 billion two-year capital plan to stimulate economic recovery following the pandemic.

"This is an exciting step forward in this project," SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Jim Reiter said. 聽"The new hospital will be a great benefit to residents in southeast Saskatchewan and I look forward to Group2 beginning their work."

Group2 will be responsible for developing the specifications of the hospital. 聽This will include validating program requirements, refining cost estimates and preparing the design, construction and clinical specifications.

"Our team of design professionals takes great pride in contributing to the improvement of health services across our province," Group2 Principal Architect Laura Plosz said. 聽"We see the delivery of the new Weyburn and District General Hospital as a key project in fulfilling that commitment."

"The community will play an important role in the design of our new facility," Saskatchewan Health Authority Vice-President of Infrastructure, Information and Support Andrew Will said. 聽"We understand the complex nature of health care and appreciate the benefit that will be achieved as the new hospital will include access to a variety of services under one roof, including acute care, primary health services, mental health and emergency services."

Once design work is underway, the next stage in the project will be to select a construction team. 聽A multi-stage procurement for construction is anticipated to begin late this summer and construction is expected to begin in 2022.
