Weyburn’s Variations choir marks 30th anniversary

Variations to perform again on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at Grace United Church

WEYBURN – The Variations community choir is happy to be back singing again in person, and put on their spring concert on Friday evening to celebrate their 30th anniversary with the theme, “Just Sing”. Variations will one more performance, on Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at Grace United Church.

“It’s celebrating that we can get together again and sing,” said director Colleen Weimer.

The choir came into the church to the tune, “Singin’ in the Rain”, which Weimer said the group felt it was somehow appropriate for the evening’s performance after a full day of rainfall.

The program kicked off with the Carpenters song, “Sing! Sing a Song!”, and the popular 1970s tune, “I’d Like To Teach the World to Sing”, and ended with the song, “As Long As I Have Music”.

For this last number, the choir invite upd any past members of Variations in the audience to come up and sing with the group.

A guest group was the girls choir, Spirit of Grace, who sang a couple of songs during the intermission, directed by Colleen’s daughter, Kendra Gonczy, and later joined Variations for a song.

Tickets for Sunday’s concert will be available at the door, and will cost $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under.
