WEYBURN – Crocus 80 Theatre staged a short Christmas story, 'The GIft of the Magi', for three performances, on Friday and Saturday, at the Tommy Douglas Centre.
The play was written by Wendy Sidloski of Weyburn, who adapted a short story by O. Henry, and it was directed by Bernadette Mullen, the new president of Crocus 80 Theatre.
The story is about a young couple struggling to find funds to afford presents for each other. The play is set in New York in the year 1905, and follows newlyweds Jim, played by Emerson Jack, and his wife Della, played by Klara Leong as they try to make Christmas magical for each other.
Ron Wormsbecker, ever dressed to impress, plays a humble shopkeeper. Leslie Richards plays Madame Sophronie, a curious but honest character. The fifth and final character is the narrator, depicted by Mullen.
The Community Carollers are a group of local Weyburnites directed by the Colleen Wiemer. This soon-to-be classic play features six talented voices singing many holiday favourites woven throughout the story.
Donations for the Tommy Douglas Centre were taken at the door, along with donations of food items for the food bank.
