WAWOTA - There were two funeral services held in this area on Oct. 23. At Riga Cemetery, there was a graveside service for Laurel (Shire) Cook. She passed away Oct. 7 in Winnipeg at age 50. She leaves behind husband Lee Cook and her family Ashley, Alyssa, Austin, Ami, Nick and Lillie. 

At the Fairlight Community Hall, a funeral service was held for Dona Low. She passed away on Oct. 12 at the age of 73. She leaves her husband, Jerry and family of Lisa, Kevin (Laura) and Christine (Sheldon) and their families. 

The Wawota Public Book Club met at the council chambers on Oct. 18. They discussed their latest read, All The Light We Can Not See, by Anthony Doerr. 

Sympathy to the family of the late Doreen (Funk) Seeman of Saskatoon. She passed away on Oct. 12 at the age of 78. She was predeceased by her first husband Ed Funk and she is survived by her husband, Glenn Seeman and her family, Leighton, Dustin, Trenton and Kriston, and James (Seeman) and their families. A funeral service was held in Saskatoon on Oct. 23 and also one was held at the Wawota Free Methodist Church. 

Wawota Parkland held an impromptu rodeo last Friday. They had a horse, a goat, two clowns and an announcer. Mr. Risling was a good sport as he fulfilled his commitment to the student body as they reached their goal for the Terry Fox Foundation. 

Word has been received of the passing of Garry Zilm, a former Wawota resident. He passed away in Regina on Oct. 13 at the age of 79. His parents were Wilbur and Ethel. He was predeceased by his wife Lonette and is survived by his family, Brent and Marti, stepchildren Kerry and Tammy. He was also a brother to Henry (Myrna). 

Visiting with Shirley Corkish from Cottage Grove, Minn., were Jeff Corkish, Owen, Addie and Mason. Jeff and Owen spent some time hunting before returning home.
