WEYBURN - The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs are the Co-op Challenge champions for the third consecutive year.
The Elecs defeated the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles in both matches Wednesday night in Weyburn to take the annual showdown involving the senior boys' and girls' volleyball teams at the two schools.
Estevan won Wednesday night's match-up for the senior boys' teams 3-0 (33-31, 25-19 and 27-25) and the senior girls' game 3-2, with ECS winning two sets 25-15 and 25-16, and Weyburn taking sets 25-16 and 25-18. In the fifth set, Estevan won 17-15. The fifth set was interrupted by a fire alarm that went off in the school.
The Elecs kicked off the Co-op Challenge on Oct. 9 in Estevan by winning both matches in straight sets.
The team that wins the most sets in the four matches wins the Co-op Challenge. Estevan clinched the series when they won the first set of the boys' game, and the Elecs defeated the Eagles 12-2 in the overall score.
And while total points aren't factored into the decision, Estevan won 334-261.
