School divisions provide COVID-19 update

Community schools are following the direction of their respective school division's safe schools plan

UNITY — In a social media post, Jan. 11, Living Sky School Division says 37 cases were reported for the period, Jan. 7-11. Two cases were reported at Cut Knife School, one case at McLurg, four cases at Unity Composite High School and six at Unity Public School.

The communication stated that the division office will be sharing updates twice a week on their social channels and website. Any staff/students who are considered close contacts will receive communication directly from their school as soon as they are aware of positive cases.

A complete directive on COVID-19 safety measures is in the LSDD schools safe plan on their website .

Kelsie Valliere, PR/advancement specialist tells the Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca, “An internal, levelled plan has been developed that takes into account different scenarios based on whether cases are affecting students, staff or both. Communication will go out to parents as different levels of the plan activate at the school and/or division levels that will explain what steps are to be taken at that time.”

Light of Christ Catholic Schools Director of Education Cory Rideout says, “We are following what we have been advised of, that we no longer have to publicly report cases in our schools on our website, as those that are affected will be contacted by our schools. The direction we have been given is to assume positive if rapid test indicates such. Our process is as tight as it can be and, due to the reliance on the results of self-administered rapid tests, our reporting is only as good as the information we receive from our communities. The best advice I have is to remind families to test often.”

The LOCCSD also has COVID-19 information on their website

The premier did not announce any further updates for schools in his Jan. 12 press conference.
