A variety of summer recreation options in Kerrobert

Extensive work has been done on Kerrobert's pool to keep it operational.

KERROBERT — As we are nearing more consistent summer weather, the focus on the swimming pool has begun. Kerrobert’s large pool was built in 1969, through the help of the federal government as part of Canada’s 100th birthday celebrations. A number of these pools were built throughout the country, and after 50 years, most of them have been closed or dug up because of disrepair.

Kerrobert has been blessed with many staff members and volunteers who have ensured the swimming pool has beem well looked after over all of these years, but like anything else over time, the beloved pool began to show its age.

After more than 50 years, Kerrobert’s pool was looking rough and had leak issues. Thousands of gallons of water were 小蓝视频 lost each year. The restrictions that came with the COVID-19 pandemic forced the community to close the pool’s doors for a full season, and with that news and the help of grant money, we decided it was time to act and get this pool fixed.

ICS Concrete out of Biggar was hired and they did a fantastic job of concrete repairs. This work that was done not only fixed the leak issues, but the finishing work looks amazing. It is like we got a new pool.

Kerrobert pool staff are currently working hard to get the pool ready for another season of fun in the sun. With the price of fuel, many will choose to have a staycation summer, which would be great to have more support for our pool. Opening date is slated for June 3.

Spring and summer sports such as golf, slo-pitch and minor ball have begun. People are encouraged to head to the fairgrounds to watch, or play some ball, or swing some clubs at the golf course.

This year’s grads from Kerrobert and area have been busy shopping for suits, dresses and planning their futures. On behalf of town council, town staff and our entire community, we wish all the graduating kids the best of luck as they venture off to start their post-secondary education and begin working at various jobs to continue their growth as young adults. It is my hope that many will stick around to help grow our own communities with their skills and dreams for a better future.
