The rain keeps falling and more problems keep coming.

Although we are in the midst of the Major League Baseball season and have watched perhaps the most exciting CFL game to kick off the season a week ago, still the NHL is grabbing the main headlines in the sports world.

Dear Editor I decided to write this letter to voice my disappointment with the decision to keep the new swimming pool at six lanes, not the eight lanes the North Battleford swim club had proposed.

One of the things I am finding myself writing about too often in this column and over at the News-Optimist blog, is the crime situation in North Battleford. The crime beat is not one of my favourites.

Oh Canada! The Roughriders celebrated the July 1 holiday with their own fireworks, coming back from a 21-point third quarter deficit to defeat the Montreal Alouettes 54-51 in double overtime in a Grey Cup rematch at Mosaic Stadium.

The vandalism that occurred during the G20 conference in Toronto was appalling. My wife and I lived in Toronto for about 10 years. It's a beautiful city. I literally wept to see the wanton destruction of stores, police vehicles, and more.

This column is coming in a little after the fact because a backload of other sports, but better late then never.
