They had to pump water for three or four days to dry off the field, but the sloppy conditions didn't seem to hurt the home team. The Lanigan Lazers hosted the Hanley Sabres in a Conference 3 six-man football league game on September 17.

Midget Stars split home opener weekend

Saturday, the Stars allowed four powerplay goals and lost 6-2 in their season opener. Justin Lund scored on the powerplay in the first with Dylan Fluter drawing the assists. Jesse Gerbig scored in the second from Regan Yew.

North Stars swept in home-and-home series

Friday night in Melfort, the North Stars scored three first period goals, two by Colin Phaneud and one by Woody Klassen. Kyle Birch was the losing goaltender. The period scores were: 3-3 after the first, 4-3 for Melfort after the second and 6-3.

A weekend of skill development, fun and a chance to watch some elite hockey, that is what is in store for four local area hockey players and 156 others from across the province.

Junior Crusaders perform well at home tourney

The John Paul II Collegiate boys' team came so close to winning their home tournament, but since it was the first tournament of the season they have to be happy with the result. The boys competed with Medstead, Meadow Lake and Maymont.

Sports Calendar Sept. 24 to Oct. 3

SEPTEMBER 24 Battlefords Midget AA Barons will play Meadow Lake in exhibition action. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Centre. SEPTEMBER 25 Battlefords AAA Stars will host Regina in the first game of the regular season. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

Touch Football League update

The Rhinos remain the team to beat in the North Battleford Touch Football League and they picked up two more wins in the past week. Sept. 16 the Rhinos ran over the Western Can Slammers 40-0 and Tuesday they beat the Huskies 20-12.
