NORTH BATTLEFORD - Just like that, the season is over for the Battlefords AAA Stars.
The Stars had the top-seeded Notre Dame Hounds on the ropes throughout game four of their league quarter-final on Sunday at Access Communications Centre. But the Hounds erased a 2-0 deficit to force overtime, and finally won the series on a goal from Ethan Look in the overtime period to capture the series in four games.
For much of the game it looked like the Stars might be able to force a game five. They got the opening goal in period one from Kobie Anderson to make it 1-0 on the power play.
In period two, Dawson Gerwing added another power play goal to make it 2-0.
But the Hounds mounted a comeback with a goal from Keagan Merriman with less than five minutes remaining in period two. Joey Baumuller’s goal tied it up midway through the third period.
Look’s goal from Cole Wirun and Connor O’Keefe in overtime ended the game, and the season for the Stars.
Final shots on goal were 35-28 Hounds. Wilson Maxfield got the win in net for Notre Dame.
