SASKATOON — The City of Saskatoon denied circulating information that it is pursuing the redevelopment of Confederation Mall for the Bus Rapid Transit plan.

In a statement, the city said officials know the information circulating on social media and in the community. Still, the landowners would decide on any future redevelopment of the site.

In 2019, three Transit Villages—Confederation Mall, Centre Mall, and University Heights—were identified as potential areas for future privately-led redevelopment along BRT corridors.

Demonstration plans were developed to help show what Transit Villages could look like in Saskatoon. Initially, the project aimed at working with private landowners to establish more detailed commercial and residential redevelopment plans.

However, through engagement, the landowners weren’t ready to consider redevelopment, so the project became more general.

In January 2020, the Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community received the  for information only.

The plans established a Vision and Guiding Principles to guide future development, which could be considered should the owners express interest in redeveloping.
