HUMBOLDT — A fundraiser for an organization that provides mentors to children is reaching for the stars.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt and Area is hosting its largest fundraiser of the year, Bowl for Kids Sake, from Monday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 13. Teams can sign to bowl in-person at Kemway Lanes or virtually.
“We're excited to be able to do this again,” said Jodie Hergott, development co-ordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“Bowl for Kids Sake is one of our signature events and this is our 42nd Bowl for Kids Sake in Humboldt. It's a legacy that continues on and it's very successful, typically, for our agency. It's very important to our fundraising budget.”
Hergott said the funds generated from the event goes towards the agency’s programming costs. In 2020, Hergott said it costs around $1,500 a year to maintain a match between a big and a little.
“We are always working on reducing our waitlist,” Hergott said. “This year, we were blessed enough to have a number of students from St. Peter's College step forward for our in school mentoring program.”
There’s still around 10 children on the waitlist for matches at the moment.
This year’s theme is “Out of This World,” with teams welcome to wear outer space-themed costumes.
For a little bit of friendly competition there will be trophies to win for those who raise the most among such groups as schools, ag dealerships, auto dealerships and financial institutions.
There are raffles, with prizes that include a Traeger Pro Series 22 barbeque.
