Whitewood condo hit by vandal attack

Police and fire crews discover parkade covered in dry chemical.

WHITEWOOD – Residents of the Crossroads Villa condominium woke to early-morning fire alarms recently. At around 4 a.m. on Feb. 11, the Whitewood Fire Department was called to the scene  - finding a large mess instead of smoke and flames.

Upon arrival, firefighters realized someone or multiple people had broke in, entering the underground parking area. Many items were stolen, vehicle tires were vandalized, and several fire extinguishers were set off. One source said everything in the parkade was covered with dry chemical from the extinguishers.

Broadview RCMP also responded to the call, getting on-scene at 4:18 a.m.

“Multiple fire extinguishers were set off inside and approximately $5,000 worth of tools and other items were reported stolen,” RCMP said. “Several of the vehicles were also damaged, including some tires punctured.”

Residents were evacuated from their rooms, gathering in a designated meeting place. After the building was checked to ensure safety, they were able to return to their rooms. No injuries were reported as a result of this event.

Anyone with information that could assist RCMP in this investigation are asked to contact their local police service, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
