REGINA – Nine people have been charged and more arrests are expected following a four-month investigation by the Regina Police Service Crime Reduction Team (CRT). Six of those charged are youths.
Police say the investigation started in August after officers learned of activities related to illegal firearms transfers originating in Regina.
Several rural RCMP detachments, the Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) and the Provincial Chief Firearms Office all assisted in the investigation, which spanned the province including the City of Regina, northern Saskatchewan and communities in the province’s south east.
The investigation revealed multiple unauthorized transfers of firearms dating back to June of 2023.
Shawn Ryan Kakakaway, 38, is charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, weapons trafficking, and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Rueban Nahbexie, 22, is charged with possession of prohibited firearm obtained by crime, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order.
Regina police say more arrests and charges are expected as the investigation continues.
