NORTH BATTLEFORD – A preliminary hearing will be held in September to determine if there is enough evidence for Clarence Ryan Buck to stand trial for manslaughter.
Buck, 30, is accused of killing 56-year-old Richard 'Dick' Buck. Police say that at about 1 a.m. on July 6 they got a call about an assault at a home in Meota. Battlefords RCMP say their investigation determined there was an altercation between two men and one of them was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Richard Buck died from his injuries days later.
According to his obituary, he was born in Port Alberni, BC, and grew up in Shell Lake, Sask. He made Meota and North Battleford his home for the past 15 years where he and his family operated a septic business.
He liked working with his hands and could fix just about anything and was always ready to lend a hand to friends and neighbours, reads his obituary. Buck enjoyed the outdoors, sledding, quadding, fishing, hunting, and spending time around a fire, visiting, sharing stories, and having a beer.
“Most of all Richard loved us, his family, and we knew that he would do anything for us," continued his obituary. "While he was known to be stubborn and grouchy at times, he was the strongest man we knew. He muscled through any difficulty with determination and courage. But as strong as he was, he was a softy too. He was a very special ‘Papa’ to the little ones in his life. They all loved that he played with them, and he always seemed to have a grandchild or two following him around as he fixed vehicles and worked in his shop."
