PRINCE ALBERT – Convicted killer Nicholas Buck, who is serving life in prison for murder, was handed 18 months on April 10 for assaulting another inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

According to court documents, Buck, now 27, and two other inmates were charged in November 2023 with assault causing bodily harm against fellow inmate Aidain Lachance on May 27, 2023.

On Wednesday, Crown Prosecutor Alexandria Boucher and defence Alora Arnold entered a joint sentencing submission to Prince Albert Provincial Court, which Judge H. M. Harradence accepted. Buck's additional sentence is to be served concurrent to his life sentence.

In March 2021, Buck was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 61-year-old Mark Douglas Jonson. He was sentenced to life without parole eligibility for 12 years.

During Buck’s sentencing hearing, court heard that Jonson died the night of July 2 or the early morning of July 3, 2019. Battlefords RCMP found Jonson deceased in a home on the 1500 block of 100 Street on July 5, 2019.
