SASKATOON – A lawyer representing a 50-year-old man accused of defrauding a car dealership of $250,000 expects to hold a Gardiner Hearing, Saskatoon court heard Tuesday. A Gardiner Hearing is a contested sentencing hearing after an accused has pleaded guilty.
Defence counsel Aleida Oberholzer waived delay and asked for an adjournment until April 11 for her client Dwayne Bruce Onofriechuk. Judge Douglas Agnew granted the adjournment.
Onofriechuk was arrested by the Saskatoon Police Service Fraud Unit in March 2022 following a lengthy investigation, says SPS.
Court documents obtained by SASKTODAY.ca reveal that Onofriechuk is charged with fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000 for stealing used vehicles from Mid-City Auto between September 2016 and February 2018, while he was employed at the dealership.
