STURGIS- STURGIS Mayor Don Olson shared his projected view for the new year for the Town of Sturgis.
“The Town hired a Planning Consultant to start writing an Official Community Plan for the Town (two-year project) to begin and augment the Strategic Panning Process for the future. The first draft was completed and we are now looking for the communities input,” stated Olson.
“We will be hosting a town-wide public meeting where the community residents can take a look at the plan and give their feedback. The meeting will be held at the end of February or beginning of March. This will be a very important report, and will guide the future direction of the town. After the meeting the consultant will make a second draft and once council approves the draft they will send it in for government approval. We are hoping for competition by the end of 2023.”
“Upgrades are scheduled for the Water Treatment Plant, with an Ultra Violet system 小蓝视频 installed, new piping, filter media and electrical. Tendering has been advertised for a new water plant building. Once all quotes are in, we intend to apply for funding through the Canada Community Building Fund (formerly known as the Federal Gas Tax grant) from the Federal Government. The new building will be built over top of the old one and once the new building is ready the old one will be dismantled. The projected cost will be approximately $350,000.
“Work will continue to be dome on providing and installing water and sewer service to lots in the new subdivision through the IICP Application – Building Canada Infrastructure grant.
The servicing requirements to our Olga Avenue sub-division will be completed by the end of the year.”
“The new Co-op store is causing much excitement and we anticipate construction starting in early 2023.The Disc Golf course that was installed and setup last year will see signage put up to the nine baskets. Sturgis Sports Day this year will be held on June 24 and 25, and council will be attending the SUMA Convention in Saskatoon from April 16-19. The town is also in the process of setting up a new town website.”
“We are all looking forward to a better year in 2023. Best wishes from the Town of Sturgis,” concluded Olson.
