PREECEVILLE - Agnes Murrin of Preeceville was presented with a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal in the presence of her friends and community members on Nov. 17.
She was nominated for the award by the Preeceville Legion and is a dedicated volunteer for Preeceville.
In the nomination, it was recited that she is a Legion member who has helped fundraise and get the Veteran banners created, as well as doing all the research for the banners that presently hang along the street posts in the Town of Preeceville.
She is part of the hospital auxiliary that worked for much-needed equipment for the hospital. Murrin is the President for the Preeceville and District Heritage Museum and is passionate about history and the museum. She is the secretary of Preeceville and District Lions Club and also active on the Economical Development Committee and in the Lutheran church.
Cathay Wagantall, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, gave a letter of acknowledgement that was recited on her behalf. “It has been my honour to participate in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations marking the longest reigning Sovereign, Canadian Members of Parliament were provided with a limited number of pins to present to deserving individuals. The pins were created and plans for presentation were made prior to Sept. 8, 2022. With the marking of the Queen’s passing we were advised that we could still present the pins but participants could not wear them. To the recipients of these pins, you have been recognized by your peers for your dedication and time and selflessness,” she concluded.
The pin itself has seven sides, seven maple leaves and seven pearls that mark the Queen’s seven decades of service to Canada.
