Dear Editor: I wish to respond to the article in the November 9, 2011 edition of Yorkton This Week, titled 'Crohn's Awareness Month.' The symptoms of this disease are horrific.

There was huge voter-turnout problem in last Monday's Saskatchewan election. We used to call it the NDP vote, but it has disappeared somewhere. And it wasn't just in rural Saskatchewan where NDP votes actually started to vanish decades ago.

On a recent trip to Ottawa, I wandered over to the Canadian National War Memorial on Parliament Hill. The monument was surrounded by flocks of curious onlookers standing eight or nine deep behind a blockade.

Election day 2011 in Saskatchewan will be one for the history books. It may also be the benchmark for a rather dramatic change in the political landscape of this province moving forward. The numbers are of course historic.

I guess it's official: winter has arrived. As optimistic as I am, I have a feeling that the snow is here to stay, don't you? No matter, we had a good season.

By the time you read this, the Saskatchewan election campaign will be over, which is a problem for those of us who still practice the black art of writing political columns in advance.

Dear Editor: On Oct. 26 the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce sponsored a debate on the Canadian Wheat Board.

The names of plants are fascinating, aren't they! One chilly evening, I was sipping my tea and thumbing through Marjorie Harris' book, "Favorite Annuals", when a beautiful blue bloom pictured on one of the pages caught my attention.
