Times Perspective

LOOKING BACK... A Decade Ago

Butch Whitehead of Minnesota, who had been working as the plant manager at Above Board, the strawboard plant, took a military leave from his job so that he could be deployed with his regiment to Iraq.

After town council had signed a memorandum of understanding with SaskWater, which was a step towards having the provincial body take over the municipal utility, a debate began regarding the feasibility of allowing SaskWater to take over. Mayor Bert Pollon had said that if the town did not go with SaskWater, it would have had to borrow about $3 million to complete an upgrade of the system, which was estimated to cost $5.4 million.

Two weeks after Kamsack had begun the celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the community and the province and still residents and visitors were basking in the glow of a highly successful undertaking.

Vernice Walker was named grand aggregate winner of the Kamsack Horticultural Association鈥檚 58th annual show.

Members of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute class of 1989 who met August 7 during the Kamsack centennial celebration included Tim and Deanna Bodnaryk, Jodi (O鈥橬eill) Smith, Tammy (Franklin) Popoff, Nissa (Chernoff) McMasters, Ryan Phillips, Jeanette (Cuervo) Kmiec and Kim Walker.
