Volleyball season ends for KCI junior girls team

The two-month junior girls volleyball season ended for the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute team on October 25 at the conference competition in Sturgis. The KCI Spartans was one of five teams entered in Sturgis.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The two-month junior girls volleyball season ended for the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute team on October 25 at the conference competition in Sturgis.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The KCI Spartans was one of five teams entered in Sturgis. The others were from Norquay, Sturgis, Keeseekoose and Preeceville, said Julianna Nichol, the team鈥檚 coach.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Facing the Norquay team, the Spartans won their first set and then lost the next two, knocking the team out of contention.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 During the year, the Spartans defeated Keeseekoose once and Norquay twice at after-school games, and attended four tournaments. The team was one of five teams at Langenburg in mid-September; was one of eight teams in Canora at the end of September; one of 10 teams at Yorkton in mid-October and one of eight teams competing in Melville, also in mid-October.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Members of the team were: Cadence Campeau, Rylee Zbeetnoff, Chloe Koroluk, Jordyn Thomas, Charlotte Henderson, Lakota Laughren, Aura Whitehawk, Megan Rafford, Anastasia Schwartz, Leah Schwartz, Kate Erhardt and Scarlette Quewezance (captain). They were coached by Nichol and Kim Gulka.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team was comprised of two Graded 7 students; four, Grade 8 students and six Grade 9 students. Only three members of the team had played in the previous year.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t was a building year,鈥 Nichol said. The girls learned lots of skills and improved much during the year.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had our ups and downs,鈥 she said, adding that a highlight of the season was the team鈥檚 impressive showing in Norquay.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to next year,鈥 she said.
