Super League curling returns with same teams as last year

The first round of Duck Mountain Super League (DMSL) men’s curling was played in Kamsack November 15 when all seven teams based in Canora, Benito, Arran, Norquay and Kamsack that had competed in 2015 were back to play again this year.

     In a rematch of the 2015 final, Don Bowes of Kamsack defeated defending champion Bob Kolodzeiski of Canora. Randy Trofimenkoff of Kamsack opened the season with a victory over Fred Perepiolkin of Kamsack.

     Arran’s Jeremy Hrycenko won a very close contest with Benito’s Rick Kinaschuk. Ken Newell’s team had the bye.

     The second DMSL draw, played in Kamsack November 22, saw Ken Newell of Norquay face Bob Kolodzeiski. Don Bowes played Rick Kinaschuk and Jeremy Hrycenko took on Fred Perepiolkin.

     A third round of men’s curling will be played in Kamsack November 29, and then Duck Mountain Super League action shifts to Norquay on December 6   and Canora on December 13 before returning to the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack December 20.

     The round-robin competition concludes January 3 in Benito.

     Over $1,000 in prize money will be up for grabs January 10 when semifinals and the championship game are played in Kamsack.

     Sponsors for the various teams, with the exception of W.F.Schnieder and Son, who is backing Rick Kineschuk of Benito, have yet to be determined.
