With the end of another school year, West Central Athletics has shone a spotlight on those who work behind the scenes to ensure sports programs are run smoothly, and whose efforts have not gone unnoticed in the community.
Will Johnson, a teacher based out of Biggar, was presented with the Service Award. The volunteer award recognizes those with West Central district involvement, school level involvement and community involvement.
As well, Kim Sobkowicz of Outlook was named the West Central Athletics' Official of the Year. Kim is the vice-principal at Outlook High School, and he can be seen regularly in the community serving as an official for numerous sports, including donning the stripes to officiate at many senior hockey games for the Outlook Ice Hawks.
"Thank you Kim for all time and commitment to officiating the sports offered by West Central and the SHSAA (Football, Basketball, Volleyball)," said Lance Morrison in a released statement. "Kim also is a very high level hockey official. Congratulations Kim and thank you again for all you do for the student-athletes of West Central."
