The Sacred Heart Saints girls soccer team travelled to Prince Albert Sept 9/10 for a tournament hosted by St. Mary High School. The girls won the 'B' side by winning two games and losing one. Their record for the season is 4-1.
The first game they were against the mighty PA Carlton team who proved to be too skilled and powerful for the Saints.
Carlton won the game 3-0 to drop the Lady Saints to the 'B' side.
In the second game, Sacred Heart came up against John Paul 2 from North Battleford.
JP2 came out flying at the beginning of the game but Saints keeper Raquel Hackman made some great saves early in the game to keep the game even.
The Saints found their scoring touch with Rita Fetsch scoring four goals and Kaylee Ford scoring twice to win the game 6-2.
Ford had an outstanding game and in addition to her pair of goals made some beautiful set ups.
In the Saints final game against Prince Albert Carlton 2, the Saints dominated from start to finish winning this game 5-1. All team members contributed to this strong performance. The Saints found some secondary scoring. In addition to Fetsch and Ford scoring again, singles were added by rookie Bryce Sherring, Hailey Richards, and Jenna Sahulka.
Two of the five goals were scored off of corners from Fetsch.
Ford scored on the corner kick off her head and Sahulka scored on a lovely volley directly from the corner.
Coach Jeanne Fetsch was pleased with her team's performance as the team has only had time for three practices.
The team needs to improve on their transition play, converting more quickly from offence to defence and vice versa. They will also be focusing on ball control and improving their first touch passing.
The Saints next action will be this weekend in Moose Jaw where there will 16 of the top teams in the province at the annual Moose Jaw Soccerfest. The Saints are hoping to finish in the top eight, says coach Fetsch.
