The Sacred Heart senior football team put up over 180 all purpose yards which led to their third win in three tries during Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics Association action last Thursday.
"We spread the ball around a little more today," offered Trent Senger, head coach and defensive co-ordinator following a 52-14 victory over the Esterhazy Warriors.
He added that he was "quite impressed" with Landon Madson who scored for the Saints late in the fourth quarter.
The win puts the Saints' record up to 3-0 and puts them into a tie for first place in the Conference III standings.
They now have a game coming up against the team they are tied with, the Foam Lake Panthers.
Senger said the game will be played in Foam Lake. Both teams go into the match with perfect 3-0 records.
Foam Lake is 1-0 at home this year.
That game will also conclude the regular season games for Sacred Heart.
Last Thursday afternoon against the Warriors, SHHS went with the backups in the second half after SHHS had close to a 40-point lead at the half.
New quarterback Zach Todos was among the offensive players saw some time on the field, says Senger.
"They played just over half of the game," said Senger of the second-stringers.
He added that the reason for the line-up switches was to make sure the first stringers are all set to go when the playoffs start up in just over two weeks' time.
The Saints got a bit of a scare during Thursday's game when tail back Preston Liebrecht went down.
Liebrecht, who has been terrorizing the opposition defence all season long, got hurt, but Senger said it isn't serious.
Defensively, Dylan Johnson took an interception back for a touchdown, running the ball 68 yards off the Esterhazy quarterback's error.
Also for Sacred Heart, Martin Pearson made 13 tackles and included one quarterback sack. Lyndon Shea contributed nine tackles and also had a quarterback sack.
It was their final home game of the 2011 regular season.
The game did not see any scoring at all in the third quarter.
Madson capped the scoring with a late touchdown in the fourth quarter. It came after Esterhazy scored their last touchdown.
Senger said it was a preventative measure to pull most of his starters in the game's second half.
SHHS did not wait long to break open the scoring in this game.
SHHS retrieved their own onside kick. That led to Liebrecht's first of three touchdowns.
He finished the day with touchdown runs of 23, 18 and 29 yards, along with four carries for 70 yards on the ground. Brett Kitchen ran twice for a total of 14 yards, Travis Buzinski started the game at quarterback, ran once for six yards, Bradly Gregory ran twice for nine yards and Todos ran the ball twice for four yards.
In passing yardage, the Saints quarterback duo of Buzinski and Todos combined for 63 yards, each throwing for one touchdown.
