The Yorkton Regional High School Gr. 9 girls volleyball team took home gold in the District Championships this weekend in Churchbridge.

They went through the round robin undefeated with wins against Churchbridge, Esterhazy, and Preeceville.

The semi-final game was against Kamsack who was the second-place finisher in the B pool, says Dee Dee Walker, coach of the Regional.

"Kamsack won the first set 18-25, but the YRHS girls got it together and won the next two sets; 25-14, and 15-12. St. Henry's, whom the YRHS girls have not yet defeated all season, was the B pool top finisher."

They defeated Preeceville in their semi-final match, so the rivalry was on between Yorkton and St. Henry's, says Walker.

"St. Henry's came out strong and confident and won the first set 25-20. But the Yorkton team didn't give up and came out and probably played the best game all season to win the second set 25-16."

The Raiderettes went on to defeat St. Henry's in the third set by an astounding 15-4 margin, clinching the East Central Athletics Championships.

MELVILLE

The Gr. 9 girls volleyball team from the YRHS competed in the MCS tournament on Oct. 21-22.

"They finished third after the round-robin play and went on to play Stockholm in the first playoff round. The girls played well and defeated Stockholm two straight sets," says Walker.

The next round was against Sacred Heartwhere the girls came up a little short on their play.

"Sacred Heart won the first set 25-21 then YRHS won the next set 25-22but lost the third set 10-15, so that put thegirls into the consolation final against Esterhazy," says Walker.
