Paul Keys again wins championship flight of annual Golden Duck tournament

A former Kamsack recreation director has won another Golden Duck trophy to place beside the ones he won last year and in 2013.

A former Kamsack recreation director has won another Golden Duck trophy to place beside the ones he won last year and in 2013.

Paul Keys of Yorkton was the championship flight winner of the Golden Duck match play golf championship held at the Madge Lake Golf Resort August 17 to 19 with title sponsors Molsons and Alaris Royalty, said Rich Patterson, owner of the golf resort.

Defending champion Keys defeated Zac Fedorak of Kamsack in the final.

鈥淭he tournament featured 118 golfers who travelled here from all over, including Saskatoon, Regina, Yorkton, and Calgary,鈥 Patterson said. 鈥淭he weather stayed beautiful throughout the weekend which is always a bonus.鈥

Winners of the other 10 flights were: first, Curtis Chernoff of Regina; second, Wilf Pennell of Madge Lake; third, Kelly Hancock of Yorkton; fourth, Larry Folk of Madge Lake; fifth, Jake broad of Madge Lake; sixth, Ken Shabatoski of Madge lake; seventh, Les Fedorak of Kamsack; eighth, Everett Smorodin of Yorkton; ninth, Lance Hawryluk of Roblin, and Scott Boychuk was the winner of the tenth flight.

In the women鈥檚 flight, which is played in pairs, Karen Cottenie and Kathy Inglis of Yorkton were the champions, Patterson said.

Hunter Kutcher of Regina won the junior competition.

Hole sponsors for the tournament were: Smoker Broker, Dr. Floyd Puchala, Cottenie and Gardner, Pattison Agriculture, Prairie Soil Services, Kamsack Home Hardware, Alaris Royalty and National Bank Financial. Door prizes were awarded throughout the week-end.

The tournament also featured a $150,000 hole-in-one shoot-out, held on August 17 and sponsored by Cottenie and Gardner. The top prize was not won, but Tom Jordens of Madge Lake rallied the crowd when his shot rolled past the cup and missed by mere inches, Patterson said.
